After criss-crossing the Americas, choreographer and documentary filmmaker Rhodnie Désir stops off in her native Montreal to re-edit the process of a striking quest here in Montreal (Tio'tia:ke): BOW'T-Tio'Tia:Ke. A deeply moving territorial excavation, made up of landmark encounters, which her body absorbs and translates into a powerful dance of life.
The Haitian-born artist unfurls her triptych, created in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement. She enthusiastically takes over outdoor spaces steeped in colonial memory, examining our metropolis' slave-owning past. Rhodnie Désir transforms infamy into a cathartic gesture of invigorating brilliance. Surrounded by musicians, the choreographer explores the heritage of Afro-descendant peoples in her Territoire de naissance, and continues the essential dialogue with the First Nations. With its ancestral rhythms, liberating songs and incantatory movements, this ceremony is a hymn to resistance. A fundamental duty to remembrance.
