SCÒ

LAB'Ò SCÒ  #1 >> January / February 2025 (65 hours)
Next step : finding funders to support the physical and sound immersive exhibition idea.

First project incubated in February 2025: SCÒ
SCÒ tends to explores the physical and social tensions and distortions that arise from the diagnosis of scoliosis in adolescence, the role of caregivers and support staff, and the perpetual social adaptations to which human beings are subjected. After 36 hours of intensive work in our studio, we produced the first 15 minutes of this performance. These minutes lay the foundation for a choreographic exploration that goes far beyond mere representation. They weave a physical narrative that speaks of resilience, inner strength, and beauty in adversity.

This research through immersive choreographic composition, integrating bodily movement, music (including vocals), the relationship to objects, lighting, and video projection using AI-generated images, has informed us about the potential of SCÒ.

The video below demonstrates our thinking after 60 hours (creating a choreographic and stage work). Tought,
the LAB'Ò revealed that the immersive sound and experience intimicy was more appropriate.Given the depth and care required to receive the powerful and equally vulnerable testimonies collected, we will therefore orient the next LAB'Òs towards this medium-body, in order to see what others may also emerge to strengthen the capacity for popularization, prevention and social democratization of scoliosis, thus also fighting against the injustices caused by these diagnoses.

“My wish is to make the invisible audible through the power of art, weaving together knowledge, cultures and the complexities of our society”, Rhodnie Désir.

In 2013, Rhodnie created the work BOW'T. Over the course of 10 years, 9 versions were produced, along with impressive documentary tools on Radio-Canada (Webdocumentary, Webseries, medium-length film and a short film), as well as an exhibition and two conferences. The entire journey is known as BOW'T TRAIL.

Choreographic-documentary LAB'Ò

The LAB'Ò is an incubation phase that determines the type of commitment the Studio AKÒ team will bring to the subject. Lasting from 2 to 3 years, this more secretive stage is an opportunity to win over partners before the project becomes public knowledge. Built up in stages, like an R&D project, it undergoes an analytical process at every stage to optimize the commitment of each resource and the intervention of the best people at the right time.
