Chantal Labonté

Originally from Windsor, Ontario, Chantal is a Montreal based lighting designer and a graduate of the University of Ottawa in theatre and political science and the National Theatre School of Canada in production. Working both in french and english, she works primarily in the fields of theatre and dance since graduating in 2016.  Both sensitive and rational at the same time, Chantal believes in the emotional instinct as a source of inspiration in her work, while according importance to dramaturgy in the lighting design itself. For her, good design is made through collaboration between all the members of the creative team. Chantal is a recipient of two Rideau Awards for best lighting design of the year in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and a Dora Award nominated designer for Outstanding Achievement in Design for the show In My Body. Parallel to designing, Chantal has also been touring internationally with la Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Bboyizm and Patrick Watson.
